Match report Another week and another enjoyable game of cricket for the 2nd team, travelling to the well appointed and picturesque setting of Ropley CC skipper Ben Swingler won the toss and to the delight of the bowlers elected to field in the heat :) Simon Rutt opened with his usual mixture of swing and guile, conceding only 12 runs from his 8 overs, Mike Rae went for 19 off his first 3 overs and was replaced by Adrian Batchelor who again squeezed the batsmen into scoring only 28 from his 8 overs.

At the mid innings break Ropley has scored 67 off 20 overs after very creditable performance with the ball, although had we taken our catches there would have been a few wickets in the book as well. The scoring rate didn't speed up until Henry Chapman and Alan Williams combined to remove opener Gerrard for 43, the score then 93-1 off 26, Ropley's no. 2 started to push on and reached 72 before chipping one up to Oli Batchelor off Chapman. Alan Williams removed Wood for 43 as Ropley finished on 201-3 from their 40 overs, a hard examination for Woodhay in the field but we felt the total was at least 30 short of par.

In recent week's the Woodhay top order has not fired as we would like whereas this week they had a preference for the number 16 as Adrian Batchelor, Ben Swingler and Alan Williams all holed out for that number as we were 57-3 in the 15th over, Oli Batchelor followed for 10 which brought the previous week's top scorers of Mark Chapman and Geoff Neale together, they batted superbly together to push the score up to 159 before Neale was run out for 36, Woodhay needing 43 off 7 overs to win, the game very much in the balance. Henry Chapman added another 28 with his father before he was bowled for 10, the score 187-6, Woodhay needing 15 off 15 balls.

Mike Rae strode to the crease and with 5 scoring shots score 17 runs and finished the game with 7 balls to spare! Mark Chapman finishing unbeaten on 63 and a 4th victory out of 4 matches was completed.

A good game played in a great spirit on a glorious day, next week we welcome Overton II at Woodhay.
