Match report 1st XI Away to Chawton CC

East Woodhay’s 1st XI travelled to the picturesque Chawton and enjoyed another solid performance and victory, winning the toss, Skipper Joe Lawrance elected to field, much to the delight of the Chawton players, however this looked an inspired decision as Richard Dando nipped out Ollie Mayes (4) and Andy Vickers (0) as Chawton reached 6 -2 in 4 overs, they lost skipper Jake Channon for 14 with the score 34-3. Chawton batsmen Sam Charlton and Jake Wadey settled the ship but the drinks break provided decisive as Charlton holed out to George Walters for 64. Wadey progressed to his 50 but then retired hurt and Chawton subsided to 212 off their 45 overs, a late cameo by Max Williams (23*) the highlight.

The pick of the Woodhay bowlers being Seb Chapman 3-50 and Dando 2-32, a solid bowling and fielding performance that restricted Chawton to a below par score on their home track.

The Woodhay reply was aggressive as Adam Barnes and Ben Hummel punished anything short and wide and pushed the score to 74, when a mix up in communication resulted in Hummel being run out for 39, this brought Sanjeet Garood to the wicket and the youngster against provided a perfect foil as he and Barnes scored freely and pushed the score to 204 when Barnes was caught for a well constructed 84, Garood (71*) and Lawrance (1*) finished off the innings in the 37th over as Woodhay finished on 213-2, another comprehensive victory

Channon being the only Chawton wicket taker as he finished with 1-34 from 7.5 overs.

Next week Woodhay host Redlynch & Hale looking to maintain their winning run.
