Match report A great opening to the season as both Woodhay teams recorded solid victories to begin the 2022 campaign, the 1st Xi playing at home won the toss and decided to field, a decision that looked somewhat dubious as the Steep openers proceeded to throw the bat and reach the boundary racing to 118 in the 19th over when Knight was bowled by Alan Williams for 40, Collins continued on his merry way until a combination of Williams and Barnaby Talbot-Williams ended his fun on 79 with the score 154 -2 in the 28th over, the Woodhay bowlers then slowed Steep’s progress and taking wickets regularly restricted the to 226-9 off their 45 overs. Talbot-Williams 3-27 and George Walters 2-27 being the pick of the Woodhay bowlers.

The Woodhay reply was brutal as Joe Lawrance and Adam Barnes scored freely against the Steep bowlers, reaching 149 when Lawrance was spectacularly caught and bowled by Gregg Turner for a powerful 97, Sanjeet Garood joined Barnes and together they pushed the score up to 211 before Garood was caught by Turner deep on the boundary, Richard Dando 8* and Barnes 78* completed the victory as Woodhay reached 228-2 in the 34th over, Turner 1-27 and John Smith 1-40 the only Steep wicket takers
