Match report The 2nd XI started their 2019 season in the picturesque setting of Herriard CC, a cracking pavilion and possibly the best away tea of the season were all part of a successful day for the team, asked to bat on a wet wicket, freshened up by a sharp shower just before the start of the game. Openers Adrian Batchelor and Ben Swingler countered the new ball and took the score onto 44 before Swingler was caught for 14, the introduction of left arm spinner, Dave Brown, accounted for Will Flack (7) and Oli Batchelor (0) taking the score to 66-3 in 17 overs.

Batchelor Senior was bowled for a hard fought 44 and Mark Chapman (18), Richard Price (8) and Geoff Neale (34) kept the score progressing to 153-7 in the 38th over, leaving young Sam Clements (14 not out) and the slightly older Simon Rutt (8 not out) closed out Woodhay's innings at 166-7.

With Herriard having only 9 fit players, after losing two to injury whilst fielding, Woodhay's taks was pretty straightforward - take 8 wickets to win!

With the ever dependable Rutt swinging the ball into the left handed opener, Richard and Swingler using the pitch to his advantage Woodhay restricted the batsmen, increasing the pressure on them, when opener Brown was bowled for 7 by Rutt and No3 Singh was as plumb as possible for 0 by Swingler, they were in trouble. Dom Walters took a flying (well, maybe falling) leap to stump Butler (6) off the bowling of Swingler and then Flack caught Weston (0) off Swingler they were rocking.

Henry Chapman bowled and bamboozled the batsmen claiming the wicket of Burridge for 0, Batchelor senior bottled up one end whilst Woodhay's very own "Squeegee", Mark Chapman mopped up the tail by cliaiming the wickets of Apperley (12) and Richard (48) to end the Herriard resistance at 92 all out in the 34th over.

Woodhay claiming a very creditable 22 points for their first game out. A tremendous team performance ion the field saw every single player contribute to the side's victory.
