Match report Youngsters show future is bright at Woodhay

Starting with only 9 players Woodhay elected to field in the sun against Longparish III at home on a fantastic wicket and lightning outfield, the decision paid off quickly as opener Kerr nicked off to keeper Dominic Walters off the bowling of 15 year old Rory Mitchell, Woodhay created chances and took wickets regularly with only Ben Gardner staying at the wicket, playing sensibly and aggressively when required he accumulated 91 before being caught by Mitchell off skipper Ben Swingler, 15 year old leg spinner Jude Brankin-Frisby bowled well for his 3-51, whilst veteran Mark Chapman took 2-23 and Swingler 1-29 but the pick of the bowlers was Mitchell returning 4-16 off 7.3 overs. Longparish all out in the 40th over for 189.

This total was always likely to not be enough on a true batting track with a fast outfield, although losing openers Swingler (5) and Adrian Batchelor (16) with the score on 36 created a few nerves however this brought 15 year old Brankin-Frisby and Ollie Batchelor together who played magnificently to put on 106 for the 3rd wicket when Batchelor was out for 64, Brankin-Frisby perished for 50 leaving Ben Lawrance 22 not out and Chapman 3 not out to finish the game as Woodhay finished 193-4 in 32 overs claiming a maximum 24 points.

A great team victory underpinned by fantastic performances from three of Woodhay’s juniors.
