East Woodhay Cricket Club Saturday 1st XI v Locks Heath 1st XI on Sat 14 Jul 2018 at 13:00
East Woodhay Cricket Club Won by 6 wickets

Match report It was runs, runs, runs at East Woodhay on Saturday as a total of 565 runs were scored with Woodhay successfully chasing down a daunting 282 for the loss of just 4 wickets as they consolidated their place in the top half of Hants County Division II.

Locks Heath batted first and although the pacy Freddie Christian picked up the early wicket of Neil Richardson for 20 in the 6th over it wasn't until the 39th over and 209 runs before they picked up another wicket. Jack Paskins and James Hughes both batted brilliantly and both posted centuries for their side as the visitors went to 243-1. Paskins was eventually run out for 100 and Hughes was bowled by Rob Prince for 106 but with a big platform on which to come in and bat the remaining Locks Heath batters must have fancied their chances of getting over 300. Woodhay rallied though and the pace of Cameron Flack and Freddie Christian saw them cut through the visitors line up as wickets fell regularly. Locks Heath eventually finished on 282-7 which although looked daunting was probably over just above a par score for the wicket and lightning fast outfield.

Freddie Christian 2-52 off 9 overs and Cameron Flack 2-48 from 8 overs were key in Woodhay's fightback.

Skipper Joe Lawrance tinkered with the batting order and sent in the big hitting Rob Prince to open with Tom Flack and the move worked a treat as Prince smashed the ball to all parts as Woodhay raced to 50 without loss from just 6 overs. Prince eventually went for 38 with nine boundary 4's and that meant Richard Dando joined Flack to continue the good work. The two took the score to 134 in the 20th over with Flack passing another half century before he fell lbw to the spin of Marshall for 70. George Walters had a good platform with which to express himself and the Woodhay youngster did just that as he blasted a quickfire 37 before one big too many bought about his downfall. Dando meanwhile was looking in total control, passing 50 and together with Lawrance the pair kept up with the rate and at 35 overs Woodhay were 234-4 compared with the visitors 222-1 and looking good. There were no further alarms as the pair took their side to victory, Dando just missing out on another 100 as he finished on a superb 94* and skipper Lawrance was 17* at the close as Woodhay reached their target in the 42nd over for the loss of just 4 wickets.

It was a fantastic victory and one which Woodhay can build on as they entertain top 3 side Sway at Malverley's on Saturday.
