East Woodhay Cricket Club Sunday 1st XI v Flashman's XI on Sun 11 Jun 2017 at 2:00pm
East Woodhay Cricket Club Won 8 runs
Match report
East Woodhay welcomed the Flashman XI for another highly contested match played as always in great spirit. Woodhay won the toss and not wishing to have a mutiny on clearly a batsman’s paradise decided to bat. Off to a flyer Joe Lawrance (28) and James Bird put on 79 in 12 overs before Lawrance was bowled. The blistering rate continue with Bird and Luke Howe (28) giving little hope for the bowlers until a miss timed pull shot saw Howe depart. This brought Duncan Johnson together with James Bird and a 107 partnership off 14 overs with the ball being dispatched to all areas of the ground before the loss of Johnson (22).
James Bird continued his destruction of the Flashman’s bowlers before Neville (2-35) got James Bird (167 off 97 balls) caught. Woodhay closed on 291 off their 40 overs, with only Todd (2-48) being able to make a mark with the ball.
Any thought’s by Woodhay that the second half would be easier were soon dashed with the Flashman’s scoring at the required rate from the start, Todd (47) and Oliver Wrighton (60) keeping up the pressure on the fielding side. An excellent catch from Howe saw the partnership broken following some good bowling by Alex Kerr (2-26). However, the rate continued with excellent running and hard hitting from Butchard and Baldwin (38) scoring at 9 an over, continued to push the Flashman’s towards the required target. The partnership was broken by Bird with the game still in the balance.
The finish had been setup. 29 needed off 18 balls and 3 wickets remaining and Butchart still going, a wicket, 19 off 12 and 2 wickets required. A piece of outstanding fielding a direct throw from J. Lawrance to run out Butchart (72) in the 39th over 12 off 9 balls and 1 wicket. Last over 10 off 6 Bird to Bekker, caught on the boundary, Woodhay win by 8 runs with Bird finishing on 3-23 an excellent game of cricket.
