East Woodhay Cricket Club Saturday 1st XI v Michelmersh & Timsbury 1st XI on Sat 28 May 2016 at 14:00
East Woodhay Cricket Club Won by 7 wickets
Match report
The East Woodhay CC 1st XI remained unbeaten with a thoroughly professional victory over fellow table toppers Michelmersh and Timsbury 1st XI. With some moisture around from the previous day’s rain, home skipper Joe Lawrance decided to bowl first after the coin fell his way. Needless to say, the playing surface looked superb.
Off the back of a very accomplished performance in their last outing, the bowling unit was bolstered with the addition of off-spinner Ben Lawrance (3-37). His accuracy and dipping deliveries proved too much for the away team, as the upper-order never established a foot hold in the game. The opening partnership of Richard Dando (2-29) and Gavin Ansell (1-31) were economic allowing Lawrance to bowl with attacking lines and close catchers. With Alan Williams (2-37) accurate as ever and some superb catching Michelmersh struggled to reach much beyond 2 RPO for much of the innings. However a very well-constructed innings from Chris Richards (42) and some pinch hitting from the tail end accelerated the away team to 178-9 at the interval.
The reply got off to a steady start with the consistent pairing of Tom Flack and Joe Lawrance (31). The introduction of young leg spinner Joe Vaughan (3-31) briefly threatened to turn the game as he removed Lawrance and Dando in the same over. However with Flack (96*) superbly anchoring the innings, Woodhay were able to pick up runs from the away teams other bowlers. His timing, especially through mid-wicket was a pleasure to watch. Ben Lawrance put the game to bed with a quick fire 36* with Woodhay reaching their target only 3 wickets down with more than 5 overs to spare.
