Match report EWCC 2nd XI stopped the run of two consecutive league defeats by recording the third victory by 7 wickets against Easton & Martyr Worthy 2nd XI. Winning the toss the EWCC skipper elected to field first and to chase the posted score. This was possibly a consequence from the previous day when EWCC hosted Copdock & Old Ipswichians CC, a well-known club from Suffolk. The tourists comfortable chasing 278 with the loss of only a few wickets. With this in mind the Woodhay attack bowled a tight line refusing to offer the Easton batsmen any width. Supported by excellent ground fielding that produced two run outs all of the Woodhay bowlers went for less than 3 an over, resulting in a final innings total of 107. The pick of the bowlers were Sam Coyne (2-6), Adrian Batchelor (2-14) and Ollie Batchelor (2-23).

Batting on the Woodhay track is never a chore and the top order methodically went about the task at hand. The winning score of 111 came up in the 23rd over with Ollie Batchelor (32) and Barnaby Talbot-Williams (34) providing the main contribution to the total. The main highlight from the Easton attack was from their young leg spinner Hughie Lewis, and the news from the scorecard was a return of 1-17. The rise in the number of young leg spinners playing league cricket has been very noticeable recently. A certain blond-haired Australian would be looking down and smiling.
