Match report After a successful start to their campaign the 2nd XI was brought down to earth with a thumping at Crown Taverners. Fielding first EWCC never really found the right length to bowl on the compact Taverners ground. Taking advantage of this the Taverners batsmen Higginbotham (98), Thacker (69) and MacCaig (62*) took the score to a daunting 300. The bowling of youngsters Sheridan and Blakemore was a high spot in the Woody attack.

Being positive is the only way to attack a total of this size and Ollie Batchelor (49) along with Adrian Batchelor (34) took to the Taverners attack. The aggression paid off and after 8 overs Woody were 75-0. Unfortunately, the excellent start could not be sustained and a batting collapse took Woody to 95-6, with Bates recording excellent figures of 6-37. Some late order bludgeoning in the hunt for batting points saw the Woody innings end on 175.

The 2nd XI look to resume winning ways again next week and a visit to Littleton and West Hill CC.
