East Woodhay welcomed Southampton Community for the Hampshire League season finale, winning the toss skipper, Ben Swingler elected to bat and sent Father and Daughter combination Will and Annie Flack out to face the opening bowlers, they progressed well reaching a well-deserved 50 partnership before Will fell for 25, Swingler (39) joined Annie and pushed the score long before she fell for a well-crafted 66 and a maiden 50 for the senior team, Mark Chapman (37) pushed the total on before a flurry of wickets ended the Woodhay innings on 216 for 6 off their 40 overs, Abishek 2-18 and Khan 2-57 being the pick of the Southampton bowlers.

The response set off as if the Southampton players had somewhere to be and it wasn’t until the evergreen Simon Rutt struck to remove Sharma for 40 that the pace settled down, young leg spinner Henry Chapman bowled well in tandem with Rutt as they slowed the scoring, the introduction of Dhawan Shringi who conceded only 14 runs from his 8 overs and Ben Lawrance 4-39 kept the batsmen in check before Otis Brankin-Frisby with a devastating 4-18 in 3.4 overs completed the Southampton innings, as the closed at 187 all out in the final over, giving Woodhay a season ending victory, full points and a top 5 finish in the division.

Another enjoyable season with the satisfaction of seeing more younger players progressing through into senior cricket, roll on 2019!
