East Woodhay Cricket Club Won by 26 runs

Match report After struggling to find dates when we could get 22 boys together we finally completed our fixture against Kidmore End. EWCC lost the toss, which wasn’t a bad thing as we were a little unsure as to whether we had a stronger batting or bowling side. As it turned out we were strong in both but on losing the toss we were invited to bat first. The Chapman brothers, Henry and Seb, again opened the innings and whilst there were a couple of tight singles they both batted sensibly, taking singles to keep the scoreboard ticking over and boundaries when given a little width. An opening stand of 34 set a good base for us to put a good score on the board. After both departed within a couple of overs of each other Callum and Miguel continued to strike regular boundaries and Callum soon retired for a well struck 32. Momentum was maintained by Daniel who is developing some consistency in his batting by putting bat to ball. Bailey and Jack saw the innings finish on a creditable 120, our highest of the season.

Callum and Daniel opened the attack and Daniel was immediately rewarded for bowling straight by dismissing the Kidmore opener for 1. With regular bowling changes and wickets for Henry, Jack, Finnley and Bailey EWCC were always in control. The most impressive part of our display was our fielding and the amount of encouragement all boys were offering each other. Committed fielding by Jack K, Max and Henry G, combined with run outs from Bailey and Daniel, catches from Henry and Daniel and all excellently supported by Sebastian behind the sticks, meant that EWCC were always in control of the game. Kidmore’s innings finally ended on 94 and 26 short.

An excellent and well deserved first league win.
