East Woodhay Cricket Club Lost by 17 runs

Match report Despite the eventual 17 run loss to Easton East Woodhay seconds showed the future of the club is incredibly bright. With 4 players aged under 14 the Woodhay youngsters more than held their own. On an excellent wicket Easton were restricted to 199-5 thanks to the efforts of 13 year olds Callum Ryall (7-2-25-1) and Archie Darke (5-1-18-1).

That total looked well within Woodhay's compass and at drinks they were 94 without loss. In form youngster Alex Jordan (14) making batting look easy along with the more experienced Roland Gardner they played with the field and were well up with the rate. Just after drinks Gardner holed out for 43, but Jordan continued in his rich vein off form. The turning point of the game was in the 26th over when Jordan was run out for 54 after a mix up while going for a third run.

Wickets continued to tumble resulting in an ever increasing run rate. Skipper Mark Chapman was left to marshal a rear guard effort but with the field very well spread boundaries were very difficult to come by. Eventually he succumbed for 44 in the penultimate over trying to find one of the few undefended areas of the boundary leaving Woodhay 17 short of their total.
