Odiham & Greywell 2nd XI v East Woodhay Cricket Club Saturday 2nd XI on Sat 01 Jul 2017 at 2pm
East Woodhay Cricket Club Won by 38 runs
Match report
The second team chalked up back to back wins with a fine bowling and fielding performance at Odiham and Greywell. After winning the toss and choosing to bat Woodhay were soon in trouble as they lost early wickets and struggled to make an impression with the new ball. As has been so often the case this season the batting was rescued by the young talents of 14 year old Alex Jordan (53) as he chalked up his third 50 off the season and together with fellow 14 year old Oliver Batchelor they put on a valuable 45 run partnership. When Batchelor eventually departed he was replaced by in form Ben Swingler who picked up where he left off from last week. Eventually some tight bowling from Odiham and regular bowling changes brought its rewards as Woodhay slumped from 114-4 to 147 all out.
If the Batting has been all about the youngsters then the bowling was where Woodhay's seasoned campaigners stepped up. Simon Rutt who has been peerless with the ball struck 3 times in his opening spell of 8-2-13-3. He was ably supported by 13 year old Callum Ryall who was making his senior debut after recovering from a broken arm who bowled a superb 5 over spell for only 16 runs and stopped any hint of an Odiham recovery in its track. At 49-3 off 20 overs the game could have gone either way. Up stepped stand in skipper Adrian Batchelor who delivered a masterclass in swing bowling, bowling away the rest of the Odiham line up to finish with magnificent figures of 9-1-29-6 giving the Woodhay seconds a well earned 38 run victory.
