Match report
YOUNG BATCHELOR THE ONLY BRIGHT SPOT FOR WOODHAY
East Woodhay seconds went down to a comprehensive 133 run defeat at the hands of league leaders Silchester on a scorching afternoon. Winning the toss Silchester has no hesitation in electing to bat on what is a fantastic batting track. The Silchester batting line up soon made the Woodhay bowlers toil making the most of the pace and true bounce. In fairness to the Woodhay attack they hung in there and whilst finding wickets hard to come by they kept the run rate hovering around the 5 runs per over for the first 2 thirds of the innings. Eventually Silchester broke free eventually posting 253 – 4 built around a 116 from Benji Bisson.
The Woodhay run chase was soon out of sight as they were reduced to 21-3 by the 10th over. That brought skipper Mark Chapman to the crease to partner 14 year old Oli Batchelor. Bit by bit they worked their way into the game, young Batchelor showing remarkable concentration, fine shot selection and considerable power. Run scoring became a lot easier and they added 86 in only 14 overs. Sadly for Batchelor his single lapse in concentration cost him his wicket for an excellent 49. With his demise battign seemed to get a lot more difficult again with the once free scoring Chapman reduced to odd singles and the rest of the Wooday batting line up getting blown away with Neale, Gardner, Swingler and Kerr all going without scoring. Chapman was eventually last man out for 44 trying to find the boundary and the Woodhay innings subsided for 120 all out
