Match report
WOODHAY OUTCLASSED BUT NOT DISGRACED
East Woodhay seconds went into their match versus Fair Oak confident after a fine win the previous week. This week was always going to be a much tougher challenge with Fair Oak also comfortable winners last week. The Woodhay opening bowlers of Adrian Batchelor and Simon Rutt were their usual miserly selves restricting Fair Oak to 68 -1 off the opening 20 overs on a wicket that was perfect for batting. Young left armer Alex Kerr also bowled a lovely spell of 4-1-10 -0. The game changed with the arrival of Fair Oak number four Paul Smith. Choosing to drop a few teams to play with his son he immediately showed his class, timing the ball superbly finding the gaps to get the score moving and punishing anything loose. Together with opener Goodyear who had by then found his touch they put on 101 runs in 13 overs to help Fair Oak to a final score of 233-6.
The Woodhay openers of Alex Jordan the centurion form last week and Adrian Batchelor started well accumulating runs well and building a solid base. At 75-0 off 20 overs Woodhay were ahead at the same stage of the innings. However without a batter of the class of Smith to accelerate the scoring Woodhay were not able to up the tempo. Jordan fell for 48 and Batchelor for 52. With Rutt out soon after for 12 the win was out of sight. Geoff Neale (39 not out) and Mark Chapman (24) went after some quick runs to try and securing some batting bonus points and put on 60 in 9 overs to help get Woodhay up to a final score of 181 - 6.
