Hook & N Basics 4th XI v East Woodhay Cricket Club Saturday 2nd XI on Sat 23 Jul 2016 at 14:00
East Woodhay Cricket Club Won by 4 wkts
Match report
The seconds chalked up the 4th win on the bounce on a sweltering afternoon at Hook. After loosing the toss Hook started confidently aided by some unusually erratic bowling by Adrian Batchelor. An early change saw skipper Chapman into the attack and after initially struggling with his line he bowled in good combination with the ever consistent Simon Rutt to slow down the scoring. Chapman's nagging pace and bit inswing soon made a break through with Adrian Batchelor taking the catch at mid off and then clean bowling the other opener. Ollie Batchelor replaced the tiring Rutt and bowled an excellent spell of 4 overs 1-15.
Woodhay's fielding and enthusiasm belied the heat and regular wickets fell without the scoring moving on too quickly. Youngster Rory Mitchell bowled and excellent spell of leg spin 4 overs 1-19, the wicket an smart stumping by Dom Walters who kept wicket exceptionally well all afternoon. A final score of 147 not out never looked that imposing.
However Woodhay started poorly loosing Alex Jordan for 8, and Simon Rutt and Ambar Charkravarty both for ducks. When Adrian Batchelor was caught behind for 11 Woodhay were rocking at 30-4. This turned to 48-5 after debutant Stewart Codling was caught on the boundary for 9. But as per the skippers talk the strength in this team is the batting. In cam Roland Gardner who along with Chapman started to repair the damage. Bit by bit they got to grips with a tricky pitch and put on 99 to take the scores level before Gardner was caught for a superb 59. That left youngster Ollie Batchelor to complete the win by hitting his first ball for 4 leaving Chapman 51 not out. A great day at the office!
