Match report As the sun finally broke through after a wet week EWCC 2nds finally found their form delivering a complete performance in the destruction of Herriard. After winning the toss and deciding to bowl the opening pair of Gavin Ansell and George Walters (aged 13) responded by bowling full and straight giving the Herriard openers no chance to open their shoulders. Eventually frustration gave way with Ansell persuading Butler to chip the ball to mid on where Oli Batchelor (13) took the catch.
Better was to follow with local debutant Alex Webber taking over from Walters bowling with pace and movement. The next break through came with a rare lose one from Webber a half volley that was heading for the extra cover boundary at a rate of knots before it was plucked out of the air by young Walters at full stretch to the disbelief of the Herriard number 3.
The ground fielding was relentless with 7 catches held by 7 different players and a superb run out by Toby Albert from deep mid on running the batsman out at the wicket keepers end. Special mention to Ollie Batchelor bowling in his first league game taking 2-9 in 4 overs and looking just as at home in Woodhay colours as his father (who could only muster 1-30 of 6) and his late grandfather before him.

With a score of only 98 to beat hopes were high at tea. Openers Batchelor and Toby Albert (aged 14) made a stead start before Toby feathered one down the leg side to be caught by the keeper. Much to his credit he walked without waiting to see the umpires verdict showing that not only are Woodhay producing quality young players, but players who believe in the spirit of the game.

Not long after Batchelor departed LBW to set up a wobble at 13-2. However Chakravarty and skipper Chapman steadied the ship taking the score to 55 before Chakravarty undid all his good work to slog across the line and be caught for 18. By then though the match was won and the cool head of Roland Gardner (12 not out) alongside Chapman (42 not out) saw Woodhay home with no further alarms with more than 22 overs to spare. A great day at the office!
