East Woodhay Cricket Club Won by 135 runs

Match report East Woodhay II’s kicked off their 2016 season with an emphatic victory over OT & Romsey V on a traditional “Woodhay Road” at their East End home, winning the toss skipper Mark Chapman decided to bat under clear blue skies, openers Ben Swingler (13) and Roland Gardner (18) got them off to a steady start, Ben Lawrance (88) added some impetus against a tiring attack and Adrian Batchelor (17) but a team record breaking partnership of 164 between Mark Chapman (91) and Simon Rutt (57) took the Woodhay total to a club record of 320 for 4.

The OT & Romsey reply got off to a terrible start as accurate bowling from Batchelor and Rutt and acrobatic catching from Lawrance reduced them to 25-5 off 12 overs before they fought back, Swingler claimed a further wicket at 66-6 before a partnership of 119 between opener Danson (77) and Humphries (65 not out) took Romsey to close their innings at 185-7, a win for Woodhay by 135 runs. Batchelor finishing with 2-44, Rutt 2-8, Swingler 1-24 with two run outs completing the wicket taking.

A great win which also marked debuts for two of Woodhay’s U13s in the full senior team with both Ollie Batchelor and George Walters playing in their first league matches alongside their fathers, Adrian and Dominic, and in the case of the Batchelor family marking a 3rd generation playing competitively for the club.
