East Woodhay Cricket Club Saturday 1st XI v OTs & Romsey 3rd XI on Sat 11 Jun 2016 at 14:00
East Woodhay Cricket Club Won by 9 wickets
Match report
East Woodhay CC 1st XI played hosts to OT & Romsey 3rd XI on a seemingly typical overcast Saturday and upon winning the toss, EWCC Captain, Joe Lawrance, played to our strengths and chose to bowl first.
With Cameron Flack (2-32) returning from University to open the bowling with Gavin Ansell (1-52), the OT & Romsey innings rarely exceeded 4 runs per over. As the innings progressed and what moisture in the pitch having disappeared, it was over to spin twins Ben Lawrance (2-35) and Tom Flack (3-51) to keep things in check, regularly chipping away with wickets, to restrict their opposition to a well below par 203-8 from 45 overs.
Having only lost 7 wickets across the first 4 league fixtures of 2016, EWCC openers Joe Lawrance and Tom Flack strode to the crease with supreme confidence. That confidence proved to be well founded once again, with 12 runs plundered from the 1st over and with the run rate maintained at over 5 runs per over from then onwards, an opening stand of 144 ended in the 28th over, with Lawrance trapped LBW for a fine 63. With the evergreen Nick Bird (24 not out) joining Flack, the scoring only accelerated, the pair running superbly to maximise any opportunity the flagging fielders offered to pinch an extra run. With 6 overs and 3 balls to spare, Tom Flack hit the winning runs to finish on 113 not out and EWCC ending on 206-1.
Tom Flack's 2nd undefeated league century of the season, continued his impressive run of form, with scores of 149*, 20, 96*, 76* and 113*. Which now means his 2016 HCL average now sits at 454.00... We're all wondering whether we might see him featuring for England against Pakistan this summer?!
