Woodhay win Quadruple!

05 Sep 2022

On Sunday 4 September, Woodhay concluded the 2022 season with a 56 run victory over hosts, Falkland CC at their Enborne Lodge Ground in the Final of The Bowness Trophy.

The weather forecast was unfavourable and with Hungerford/Great Bedwyn unable to field a side Woodhay moved straight into the final, where they were destined to meet the victors of a cracking game between Thatcham and Falkland. The home side finishing victorious by 7 wickets with an over to spare having chased down a very competitive score of 173 from Thatcham.

So a Falkland v Woodhay final.

Batting first Woodhay made a slow start, losing wickets a regular intervals, but a fine knock by Sanjeet Garood 48, with great support from Ben Lawrance 22 and a fine cameo by Cam Flack 16* saw Woodhay to 165-9 off their 20 overs.

The pick of the Falkland bowlers being Brandon Gilmour 3-38, Graham Beal 2-12 and ex-Woodhay player, Duncan Johnson 2-38

The Falkland reply started well but stuttered as they lost 4 wickets for 23 runs as Woodhay removed the top order for 45 in under 7 overs, when Hennis 13 and C Hamblin were both out with the score on 71 it looked almost all over for Falkland and when top scorer Tom Ettridge was caught behind for 25 the game was almost up.

Woodhay with the scent of victory in their nostrils brought on Luke Howe and the destiny of the match was set as he dismissed 3 batsmen in 7 balls for 2 runs, as Falkland subsided to 109 all out.

A Woodhay victory by 56 runs and adding the Bowness Trophy to the Hampshire League Division 2 Title, the Serious Cricket Downs League and the Cyril Thompson Trophy.

What a season!
