East Woodhay Cricket Club Under 13's v Bradfield CC - U13 on Mon 06 May 2019 at 10am
East Woodhay Cricket Club Won by 99 runs

Match report On a cold Bank holiday morning the U13's put in a tremendous performance to brush aside a useful Bradfield side containing a number of Berkshire County players to advance to the next round of the cup.

On winning the toss Sebastian had no hesitation in opting to bat. With a very batting line up the coach challenged the boys to put team before individual landmarks and to go out and put a really big score on the board, and wow did they! Sebastian and Barney set the tone with 9 off the first before Sebastian perished bowled by a lovely delivery that just left him and nicked the top of off stump. Barney Talbot Williams and Rory Downie refused to let that disturb them and they continue to move apace punishing anything loose. Barney played one attacking shot too many and was caught for a quick fire 18 bringing Charlie Weston and Rory together. If Bradfield thought they were going to get a break with the dismissal of Barney then they were mistaken. They stole quick singles to ensure even good balls were punished and continued to hit anything remotely off length to the boundary. They both retired (Rory 30 and Charlie 33). James Hall was unluckily run out by a direct hit - showing that even though the team already had a good score the boys were not letting up. Bertie Darke and Thomas Hughes pretty much did exactly what Charley and Rory had done with an excellent partnership both retiring on 32 and 30 respectively. The tail kept pushing things on with the innings finally closing on 201 - 4 off 20 overs. The biggest score in junior 20 over cricket I have ever seen.

Full credit to Bradfield as they came out and played positively putting on 37 for the opening wicket in 8 overs. The deadlock was eventually broken by the ever reliable Joseph Sheridan who bagged the top 3 batters in an impressive spell of 3-0-13-3. A few catches went begging in the middle overs - not surprising on a bitterly cold morning but the boys kept up their efforts and enthusiasm and supported each other well in the field. Particularly impressive was Alex Braidwood behind the stumps who conceded only 2 byes and dealt with some very difficult deliveries. With the game long gone Barney Talbot Williams picked up a couple of wickets before Oscar Fox mopped up the tail taking 3 wickets for only 18 runs in 3 overs- at one point being on a hat-trick. Special mention to Charlie and Barney who both clung on to good catches in the outfield helping to limit Bradfield to 102 - 9 off their 20 overs. Overall a highly impressive performance against a useful Bradfield side. The next round awaits!
