Thatcham Town CC v East Woodhay Cricket Club Under 11's on Mon 04 Jun 2018 at 18:00
East Woodhay Cricket Club Won by 30 runs

Match report The U11's put in a great performance last night to defeat Thatcham by 30 runs on a cold and dark allegedly summers evening. With a much changed team showing 7 changes from the first match versus Purley and a number of players making their competitive debut the team were soon tested when Sebastian was caught and bowled for zero early on - such is cricket! Thomas Hughes and Hugo Holmes steadied the ship against some tight opening bowling. before Thomas too fell victim of a good delivery to depart for 11. With the two openers dismissed cheaply it appeared that it would be hard for us to build a dependable total. However Hugo counter attacked with some blazing shots all around the wicket (retiring on 25) before Finn and Tom consolidated with an excellent middle order partnership, profiting from some wides and no balls while punishing the bad balls. Finn was eventually caught and Tom retired for a well made 26 leaving the Bays brothers to add a final flourish with a 30 run partnership that left them both undefeated at the end and Woodhay post a creditable 121-4 off 20 overs.

The interval team talk focused on us acting as a team helping each other out and making the most from every player. The players answered the call. The opening bowlers were fast and accurate and backed up by some alert fielding restricted Thatcham to only a handful of runs from the opening overs. As the required run rate climbed wickets began to fall, Hugo making the breakthrough with a well taken caught and bowled before Sebastian bagged a good catch at point off Thomas Hughes. A mid order surge from Thatcham at one point threatened to take them close as they began to score at the required 8 runs per over. However that partnership was brought to an end with a very well taken catch by Tom Clippson at deep cover to remove danger man Oscar Moore. From there on it was Woodhay all the way as the team kept their composure and concentration in very cold conditions . The Bays brothers bowled as well as they batted with a wicket apiece and Woodhay eventually ran out winners by 30 runs
