East Woodhay Cricket Club Under 11's v Purley CC on Sun 20 May 2018 at 10:00
East Woodhay Cricket Club Won by 93 runs
Match report
The U11's got off to a fine start to the league campaign with a 93 win victory over Purley on a beautiful sun drenched morning. Sebastian had not hesitation in batting when he won the toss and both he and fellow opener Thomas Hughes soon made hay with some hard hitting shots and good running between the wickets. They fairly rocketed along at 8 runs per over and it wasn't long before they both retired fro 28 and 25 respectively. They were replaced by Charlie Weston and Toby Saich who continued the assault - they both retired too! With an excellent platform set by he top 4 the middle order had license to swing in the later overs. That inevitably led to a few dismissals with Jack, Tom and George perishing trying to up the pace, Bertie Darke remained a thorn in the opposition side reaching 17 not out by the time the innings drew to an end. A score of 145 -4 a fine effort.
After a well earned break (thanks to Penny for organising the squash and cakes) the boys went into the field. Rory Saich set the tone with a fabulous first up delivery to demolish the Purley openers off stump. Such an early set back along with some hostile bowling from Thomas Hughes put the Purley batsman on the back foot as they were forced to defend against some very accurate bowling and tight fielding. Bowler after bowler charged in with no let up in accuracy - one had to feel sorry for wicket keeper Bertie Donald who had the unenviable task of fielding the deliveries that the Purley batsman couldn't get a touch on - he did really well in very hot conditions. Eventually some of the batsman managed to connect with some shots only to find the safe hands of Charlie Westona and Tom Clippson. Tom also effected a fine run out with a well aimed throw at the stumps; Purley ending up 52-6 off their 20 overs.
A fine all round team effort.
