East Woodhay Cricket Club Won by 17 runs

Match report The Under 13s gathered on a cloudy morning at EWCC looking forward to the fixture with local rivals Falkland. Archie Darke took the responsibility for being the first captain of the season and with the opposition winning the toss Falkland invited Woody to bat. Isaac took on the challenge of opening the innings along with Chris and was soon joined by Barney. Both batted very sensibly and were rewarded with the teams’ first 50 partnership of the season. Taking quick singles when on offer was very impressive. Following Issacs dismissal for 17 and Barney’s retirement at 30, Miguel, Daniel and Archie continued to score consistently taking the Woody total to 103.
With the sun now breaking through the clouds Woody took to the field with Harry and Jack bowling a very tight first couple of overs conceding only 4 runs. Jack took the first Woody wicket of the season trapping the opener plumb in front. (A glossary will be provided half way through the season explaining all cricket terminology and there will be a test!) With Sam Daly from Falkland batting very nicely for a solid 30 the Woody bowlers continued to concentrate on bowling straight. Bailey, Brendan and Henry all bowling well to keep Woody in control of the game. Chris, Daniel and Miguel were rewarded for bowling in the corridor (see above) by taking their first wickets of the season. Falkland eventually fell 17 short and Woody recorded the victory.
The game was played in the right spirit by both sides and players demonstrated a number of skills that came directly off the training ground. Something that always makes the coach happy.
