Emmbrook & Bearwood v East Woodhay Cricket Club Under 11's on Tue 13 Jun 2017 at 6:00pm
East Woodhay Cricket Club Won by 97 runs
Match report
The U11’s scored a fourth consecutive win beating Embrook and Bearwood by 97 runs. Put into bat the opening overs show no signs of what was to follow with in form openers Sebastian and Archie Thomas struggling with a tricky wicket and some accurate bowling and were only 6 off the first 3 overs. Eventually they got to grips with the pitch and the momentum was building when Archie was bowled for 14. Charlie Weston carried on where Archie left off and reached 14 before he too was bowled. Sebastian continued on his merry way joined by Toby King who worked the singles busily and punished anything wide down the leg side. Sebastian retired for 26 replaced by James Hall. Eventually Toby perished for 18 trying unselfishly to push the run rate leaving Oscar Fox to keep the runs following with a well made 25 not out. A final score of 131 an excellent effort by the whole team.
If we thought we batted well the bowling was something else. All the bowlers bowled with discipline and accuracy and along with some fine catching (none better than James Hall) we dismissed Embrook for only 34 runs in 11.4 overs. Only one Embrook player scored any runs making 15 before he succumbed. With 16 wides / no balls and 3 byes that meant nine of the Embrook players were dismissed without scoring a quite incredible feat and something I have never seen in all my years of coaching. Hugo Holmes – who is still U9 by age group taking 4 wickets in 2 overs for no runs and was unplayable. No doubt a sterner test awaits on Thursday against Reading but a very special performance from the boys tonight.
