East Woodhay Cricket Club Won by 34 runs

Match report The U11’s continued their winning ways with what turned out to be a comprehensive 34 run win against Shinfield. On winning the toss Sebastian decided to bat and it looked to be the right decision with him and James Hall racking up 48 runs in the first 6 overs. Sebastian then retired on 25 (from only 21 balls) as the rules dictate leaving Charlie Weston and James to carry on. Slowly the run began to dry up though as we failed to take the opportunity to take the easy singles on offer. Charlie was then run out by an excellent direct hit in a bid to up the run rate, followed soon by Tom Woodrow in exactly the same manner. Toby Saich briefly threaten with a couple of very well hit straight boundaries, but when he decided to go across the line he was bowled for 8. James Hall kept plugging away and eventually retired for 26 in the 16th over. It was then left to Joseph Sheridan and Alex Braidwood to see the innings home , picking up runs but never quite getting on top of the Shinfield bowling. Final total of 124 -4 a good score but I had the feeling we left a few runs out there.
Some early tight bowling by Sebastian and Willoughby made sure Shinfiled were well behind the rate after 4 overs having only reached 14. However they then cut loose hitting 3 boundaries in one over and for the next 8 overs Woodhay seemed powerless to prevent Shinfield ticking along at the required rate of 6 an over. Lacking discipline with our bowling we conceded 41 extras in wides and no balls to offer Shinfield the hope of pulling off an upset. Eventually though the boys found their rhythm and some tight bowing by Joseph Sheridan, Charlie West and Toby Saich put us back on top. Jack Robbins then chipped in with 2 wickets and the danger had passed, Shinfield eventually ending up on 90-5.
So a good win but with lots to work on. There will be tougher tests coming up and the boys will have to execute on the basics that we practice if they want to preserve their unbeaten run.
