East Woodhay Cricket Club Won by 50 runs

Match report On one of the prettiest and best grounds in Berkshire EWCC U11’s visited Falkland CC for an evening fixture. Due to Falkland playing in a different league to EWCC the game was played under the same rules as those used for pairs cricket, although with a hard ball. EWCC won the toss and elected to field first. Daniel and Nathan bowled to the first Falkland pair and restricted them to only 1 run for the loss of 2 wickets. An excellent start which was followed with accurate spells from all EWCC bowlers, particularly Thomas who only conceded 2 runs from his two overs. Special mention also to Elliot and Henry who both took their first wickets for EWCC. Henry’s wicket was very pleasing to the cricket fan being an excellent catch taken by the wicket keeper, Nathan. The Falkland innings of 20 overs ended with them setting a target of 228. An excellent fielding performance by all players demonstrated how much improvement the team has made over the past few weeks, as they dismissed Falkland batsmen; with catches behind the wicket, in front of the wicket, with run outs (Daniel hitting one stump from 15 yards was particularly notable) and by rattling the timbers.
The EWCC reply started with the opening pair batting solidly taking the score to 227 by the end of their four overs. Further contributions from the next two pairs saw EWCC comfortably pass the Falkland total. As a wicket cost minus five runs care was still needed to ensure a Woodhay victory. Sensible batting by Finn, who played a couple of very nice shots through the leg side, Mathew, James and William, who all contributed runs to the total, saw EWCC finish on 278 and victory by 50 runs.
At the start of the game all boys were reminded that they were representing EWCC and they were all a credit to the club on and off the pitch. Well done.
