Match report The U15 season kicked off with an opener against West Ilsley at Woodhay on a glorious summer’s evening, Woodhay lost a player between the end of school and the start of the game and so began the campaign with only 10 players, undaunted they took the field and proceeded to play cricket like they had never been away.

Callum Ryall opened the bowling and his pace and swing created uncertainty in the Ilsley openers and Toby Parker swooped to spectacularly run out Brooks for 0, two hostile overs from George Walters resulted in Nash being bowled for 2 and Ilsley were 3-2, Ollie Batchelor bowled well to take 2 wickets for 3 runs from his 3 overs, Skipper Toby Albert bamboozled the batsmen and took 4 wickets for 4 runs from 3 overs, Archie Skingley’s leg spin resulted in a catch for Walters and Skingley finished with 1 for 15, Toby Parker and Alex Price bowled consistently to finish with figures of 0-13 and 0-11 respectively. Walters came back to claim the final wicket of Jeffries to finish with 2 for 11 from his 4 overs, the not out batsmen was Leo Hayes who batted very well to finish with 30 not out and be the only batsman into double figures as West Ilsley limped to 64 all out from 18 overs.

The Woodhay bowlers all performed well and in the field the players excelled chasing everything down and they made light of the missing fielder, good work from them all, including Tom MacAulay and keeper Rory Mitchell helped restrict the Ilsley score.

Woodhay’s openers Alex Jordan and Toby Albert strode purposefully to the wicket and proceeded to bat like they both had somewhere else to be, punishing anything short or wide and they scored freely against all the Ilsley bowlers completing a very quick run chase and reaching a winning score of 68-0 in only 5.2 overs, Jordan 20 not out and Albert 41 not out

An exceptional performance from a very young side in their first outing since last July and the game was played in a tremendous spirit. Well done to all the players and thanks also to Dean Jordan and Richard Price for umpiring.

Next fixture is scheduled for Thursday 16 June v Mortimer West End at Home 6pm start
