Match report East Woodhay U11's go down fighting to local rivals

With both teams having won their opening fixture something always had to give. Sadly on a glorious sunny evening it was the Woodhay batting line up who wilted after a devastating opening spell from the Thatcham quicks. Initially the opening pair of Finaly Dove and Sebastian Chapman played them well driving and picking up quick singles. However a beauty from Moore that nipped back between bat and pad accounted for Sebastian and within a blink of an eye Woodhay had been reduced to 17-4. Respite came as the Thatcham opening pair took a rest but Woodhay just couldn't get bat on ball in any meaningful way. A score of 51-9 off 20 overs that included 31 extras told the tale of the innings.

With such a low score defending the total was always going to be tricky. Opener Lewis showed immediate intent by smashing the first ball of the innings for 4. Ned Carter offered some hope by removing the other opening in his first over. Thatcham continued to go for their shots but the breakthroughs kept coming Braidwood removing the dangerous Lewis for 13 and Sebastian Chapman clean bowling Greenwood. With the scoring rate slowing Archie Thomas came up with an inspired spell of 2 overs 2 maidens 3 wickets for no runs and at 37-5 Woodhay had some hope. Despite some tight bowling Thatcham held their nerve to run out winners by 4 wickets with 4 overs to spare.
