East Woodhay Cricket Club Under 9's v Pangbourne on Sun 15 May 2016 at 10:00am
East Woodhay Cricket Club Lost by 35 runs
Match report
On a bright sunny morning at East Woodhay CC the Under 9s entertained Pangbourne CC in their second match of the season. It was an excellent advert for inclusive cricket with five girls representing the two clubs. EWCC won the toss and invited the visitors to bat. The innings started very well with Oscar taking two wickets in the first over for no runs. The bowlers continued to bowl accurately taking 8 wickets in total with Abi and Ruby taking their first wickets for the club. All Pangbourne pairs added runs to the overall score but a notable innings of 28 by Toby Cook kept the scoreboard ticking over. James H and James E bowled tidily and Archie bowled a very nice over taking a wicket for only 1 run. Pangbourne finished their innings on 261.
EWCC started their reply with Ethan and Beau both running well and adding some runs to the total. After this pair runs became a little harder to come by with Evie and Ruby making their debuts for EWCC and the latter scoring her first runs. The final pair of Oscar and Charlie had a little too much to do and although they hit the ball and ran very well the target was a little too much. The EWCC innings ended on 226.
All players were a credit to EWCC playing the game in the correct spirit. Special mention must go to Abi who was captaining for the first time and upheld the spirit of the game, applauding both home and opposition batsmen alike when a good shot was played and to Oscar for a full length, diving, one handed stop that showed an agility reminiscent of his father's younger years. Well done all of you.
