Andover 2nd XI v East Woodhay Cricket Club Saturday 1st XI on Sat 23 Jul 2022 at 13:00
East Woodhay Cricket Club Won by 80 runs

Match report Following a week off East Woodhay’s 1st XI travelled the short distance to Andover with a view to maintaining their push for promotion, winning the toss, Skipper Joe Lawrance elected to bat for the first time all season!

Openers Adam Barnes and Ben Hummel set about their task watchfully on a somewhat two paced but not unpredictable pitch and reached their 100 partnership in the 25th over, pushing on they punished anything short or wide and were able to score freely as Andover rang the changes with their bowlers as both batsman looked fluent in scoring all around the ground as both progressed towards a century, sadly for Barnes the introduction of the pacer and unpredictability of Garraghan proved his undoing as he was bowled by the first fast and straight delivery in an otherwise somewhat erratic over as he perished for 91, he is becoming Woodhay’s Acid House King seemingly permanently stuck in the nineties, perhaps he needs to move into Brit Pop to find his maiden century!

George Walters was sent in to push the scoring but lasted only 3 deliveries for his 4 runs, Woodhay 182-2 with 12 overs to go, he was followed by Sanjeet Garrod who provided the perfect foil to Hummel as they put on another 100 partnership in 12 overs as Hummel reached his maiden league century for the club, finishing unbeaten on 117 and Garood finished on 33 not out as Woodhay posted a creditable 282-2 from their 45 overs, the only successful wicket taker being Garraghan with 2-60 from his 6 overs. Special mention to Richard Longstreet who was padded up for 45 overs and didn’t get to even walk onto the outfield!

The Andover response was solid with Harri Williams and Martin Roberts playing their shots and with a fast outfield receiving value for them, the introduction of Alan Williams and Barnaby Talbot-Williams provide crucial as Talbot-Williams dropped his first ball somewhat short to see Roberts driving it back at him, caught and bowled and out for 32, The Andover skipper survived a massive appeal for caught behind by Hummel but perished caught and bowled to an ecstatic Williams for 23 and when Richard Dando ran out Williams for a well-made 51 the Andover threat to Woodhay’s total subsided. Montgomery followed also run out in an identical fashion by Dando, Garraghan went for 1, caught Dando bowled Sam Clements, who also dispatched Crouch for 6 and he was unlucky to be replaced, Smith was caught by Garood off the bowling of Henry Chapman for 13 and the same combination removed Black for 19, McMahon went for 19 as the twin leg spinners combined to produce a caught Chapman, bowled Talbot-Williams and the returning Walters finished off the innings as the impressive Dando pouched another one!

Andover finishing 202 all out in the 43rd over, Woodhay’s bowlers spread the wickets amongst them with Clements, 3-1-4-2, Chapman 7-0-34-2 and Talbot-Williams 8-1-35-2 being the most successful.

Next week sees Woodhay making the long trip to Emsworth
